Director of Operations Support, Australasia & Japan, IHG
As part of the 2018 Education Day at Seoul, Korea, Les Clefs d’Or Education Committee is pleased to announce the attendance of Gareth Long, Director of Operations Support, Australasia and Japan, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
Since early 2016, Gareth has been a part of the Australasia and Japan Senior Leadership team and is responsible for franchise hotel operations, guest sentiment and the delivery of brand standards across more than 70 hotels in this region.
Gareth has been with IHG for 16 years and worked in multiple roles across the organisation. Originally from New Zealand, he started as a Corporate Management Trainee at the InterContinental Wellington. From here, Gareth worked his way through a number of Rooms Division roles across several brands in New Zealand, Western Australia and New South Wales before heading to India to take on his first General Manager role, opening a Holiday Inn in northern India. After returning to Australia, Gareth was the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Sydney Airport for two years before taking on his current role.
With a passion for sharing information, a large part of Gareth’s role includes presenting to hotel and corporate teams on emerging trends in the industry. He enjoys expressing his thoughts on industry through writing, taking part in mentoring and coaching programs and speaking at various events.
To enhance the Education Day focus on the role of the Hotel Concierge in this age of advancing technology Gareth will be engaging our audience with his deep belief in the power of Emotional Intelligence and its potency in the area of guest experience in the hotel space. We are excited to learn more about how an “operations mind” sees the softer side of guest service and what can be done to leverage the skills, impress our guests and influence management.
